Digital Home Business Unit
Provides PC-TV receivers and home media gateways allowing free-to-air
as well as Pay-TV reception from DVB networks (satellite, cable
and terrestrial). Products are targeted to the needs of home users,
as well as to those of broadcasters (satellite, cable and terrestrial)
looking to offer their subscribers with enhanced capabilities such
as PVR or home-network distribution, based on PC architecture
The worldwide PC-TV hardware market is expected to reach $1.5billion
by 2008.
The PC and Home-Network are becoming a platform for entertainment
applications. This has recently been termed the Digital Home Revolution,
resulting from technological advances as well as lifestyle changes.
A growing audience and especially younger viewers, prefers to spend
free time in front of the PC, rather than the television. Broadcasters
must retain this audience. Additionally, viewers are already educated
about PVR capabilities such as time shifting, broadcast pause and
digital recording.
The PC industry sees Digital TV as its next growth engine. Microsoft
has recently launched Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005, and
new Entertainment PC models by leading vendors including Dell and
HP appear in the market with exciting new capabilities and services.
