NDS and VBox Announce Strategic Partnership to Bring the Movie Screen to the PC

Partnership Delivers Native MPEG-2 Digital TV to PC Users Over Satellite, Cable or Terrestrial Infrastructures; Joint Demonstration at NAB 2002
London, 8 April, 2002 -- NDS Group plc (NASDAQ: NNDS), a News Corporation (NYSE: NWS) company and a leading provider of conditional access systems and interactive applications for digital TV, and VBox Communications, Ltd., a market leader in multimedia set-top boxes, today announced a strategic partnership to jointly develop and market solutions for secure and reliable delivery of rich content to IP devices.
Bringing together NDS's knowledge of high value content security and VBox's expertise in multimedia IP-based set-top boxes and PC boards, the partnership will enable PC users for the first time to enjoy advanced TV services from the PC screen using merely a network connection.
Combining NDS's MediaStorm™ and MediaStorm TV™™ secure datacasting applications with VBox's Satellite Express™ 2035 DVB satellite-to-PC receiver board, the partnership will initially deliver native MPEG-2 digital television, secured with NDS's VideoGuard conditional access (CA), to PC users over satellite, cable or terrestrial infrastructures.
"Following our December 2000 acquisition of BroadLogic Network Technologies' Satellite Express™ product line, we can immediately offer MediaStorm™ compliant PCI boards", said Gal Turjeman, Director of Sales and Marketing, VBox Communications. "We strongly believe that this partnership will lead to increased availability of high value content applications for the PC environment in the near future."
"We recognize that PC and IP-based set-top box users desire access to the same content delivered though regular set-top boxes", commented Yorai Feldman, Vice President of Data Broadcasting, NDS Group. "We are pleased that VBox has joined NDS's partner base of PC board manufacturers supporting MediaStorm™, and we believe that rich content will soon become a standard feature for PC and other IP-based devices."
Joint demonstration will be held at the Sands Expo Center, booth #S7223, during NAB 2002, Las Vegas, April 8-11, 2002.
